Families of students at universities in Tigray State today appeared before the office of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and demanded that the commission return their children.
Hundreds of student parents, let our voices be heard; From early morning until noon, our children called for us to return.
According to a statement from Mekelle University, the parents have been vocal about the return of their children as the university will not be able to feed them since July 30, 2013.
Abubakar Kamil, a member of the parents’ committee, confirmed to the unit that the parents of the students had gone to the venue to complain to the UN agency from 2 a.m. today.
A representative of the United Nations in Ethiopia, who is directly involved in the case, said he had gone to the state and refused to speak on the phone.
