Who is affected by the US visa ban?
It is not to be forgotten that the United States has imposed visa bans on various parties to the conflict in the Tigray region of Ethiopia.
It is recalled that the US decision to lift the sanctions was rejected because of my call for an end to the Tigray war, the withdrawal of Eritrean troops from Tigray, the improvement of humanitarian aid, and the negotiation of warring factions.
The list of visa-exempt entities has not been made public, but the ban applies to:
– Former and current Eritrean and Ethiopian officials
– Ethiopian and Eritrean military and security officials
– Security forces of the Amhara region
– Members of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
In a statement issued yesterday, the US Embassy in Addis Ababa announced that in addition to the above, it will process visa applications for people traveling to the United States for education, employment, and other purposes.
