Isaac Herzog elected President of Israel!
Veteran Israeli politician Isaac Herzog has been elected the country’s next president. Herzog, chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, will take over the presidency from President Reuven Rivlin next month, the Associated Press reports.
He was elected president by a landslide of 87 members of the House of Representatives. His opponent, Mary Perez, received 27 votes.
Former Israeli Labor Party (LDP) chairman and opposition leader Isaac Herzog is a veteran politician who ran against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the 2015 election.
It is expected that their membership in the opposition will play a significant role in strengthening the unity of the country. Isaac Herzog, 60, is Israel’s 11th president.
